The aims of the Group are: To improve standards of teaching of conscious sedation in dentistry. To act as a point of reference on matters of dental sedation. To continue to develop a common curriculum in sedation. To encourage the practice of sedation in all branches of dentistry. To exchange ideas on practice and research in the field of conscious sedation in dentistry.

Formed in 1994 as a specialist group for Dental Nurses throughout the United Kingdom and Eire.The Group will also cater for Orthodontic Therapists when they are created as part of "Professionals Complementary to Dentistry".

The expanded site will give members of our institute up to date information on all the current issues pertaining to our profession with particular reference to training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Conferences etc. It will also provide for non members of the Institute who may be interested in Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Technology information about out specialty and also links to other professional groups with shared interests.

Modern lingual orthodontics is a technique attributed to Kurz and Fujita in the 1970's which used orthodontic brackets attached to the lingual surfaces of the teeth to allow tooth movements to be carried out. The appliance had a short burst of popularity in the US but once ceramic brackets were invented the decline of lingual orthodontics was quite sudden. There are, however, many patients who will not have treatment unless the appliances are totally hidden and this is where lingual orthodontics comes into its own.

The Society was founded in 1990, formed from what was formerly the Orthodontic Group of the Irish Dental Association. The Society campaigned incessantly and finally successfully for the establishment of an Irish Specialist register in Orthodontics. This was established by the Dental Council in 2000.

Established in 2002 by dentists for dentists who are interested in cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetics. aiming to establish a high level of standard in this rapidly expanding market. Its goal is to create unity in the profession and protect the personal and professional interests of ALL it's members by sharing their knowledge and experience.

Long-term adhesion to tooth structure and a better understanding of the progress of the bacterial disease in the demineralisation - remineralisation cycle which leads to cavitation of the tooth surface, make it possible to update the formal classification of caries lesions. This in turn leads to conservation of natural tooth structure with new designs for restoration.
